Does anyone know of any campsites in the New Forest area where fires are allowed? |

Heya mate, I had to look myself before going a few weeks back but it rained and we didnt go. Here's what I found on the New Forest website >> Fire: Because uncontrolled forest fires are a great threat, campfires are generally not allowed in the New Forest. Barbecue sites are provided for hire at Wilverley and Anderwood car parks by the Forestry Commission (023 8028 3141 or www.forestry.gov.uk/newforest) and at Lepe Country Park by Hampshire County Council (please book in advance: 023 8089 9108 or www.hants.gov.uk/lepe). Disposable barbecues can be used only on the specially provided metal plates fixed to the picnic tables at Bolderwood and Blackwater. Raised non-disposable barbecues are welcome at Anderwood, Blackwater, Bolderwood, Hatchet Pond, Linford Bottom, Whitefield Moor, Wilverley Plain and Wilverley Inclosure car parks. I have had friends who have been to the New Forest and had Campfires though. Maybe best to ring them and find out if there are certain pitches for hire you can have a camp fire. Hope that helps! I haven't been to the New Forest since 2004 but I know it was a problem we had as well. They really aren't keen in general because of the scrubland. I think the New Forest might be a campfire free zone alas but you never know. |
